Babies
The movie “Babies” tracks four different babies in the countries of Mongolia, Japan, Namibia, and the U.S. Viewers of the film observe clear similarities and differences regarding what life is like in these countries. Two similarities among the countries include interactions with animals, and that the strong bond between mother and child. two differences include hygiene, and toys and natural things.
When I say interaction with animals it doesn’t mean every child in different countries are around camels and dogs. The more civilized kids which are in the U.S or Japan play with dogs and cats. But the kids that are farther away from resources don’t play with dogs or cats. Its crazy how they can distract them selves for about a period of 30 min to an hour with just a little fly. Also they interact more with calfs and goats. But in all countries every child is interacting with any sort of animal or insect.
There are strong bonds between the mother and every one of these kids. You would think that just because other people live in different parts of the world and their economy is very poor they don’t have that same experience with their families.
One example of how most of the countries were different was hygiene and toys. In Japan and the U.S. babies are bathed and taken care of. They lint roll them every time so that they look good and are free of dust. They are always vacuuming too. But in Namibia and Mongolia babies are always playing in the dirt. They have no clothes on due to their climate and culture. They bath only once in a wile.
The toys they play with are very different. Even I my culture was I am from we are different but not much. Japan and us have more toys for education. They have toys that help develop their mind. For example puzzles is mainly the toys that are giving. unlike in other countries like Mongolia and Namibia play more with sticks, rocks, bones, and their fellow brothers. They have different mindsets.
The movie “babies” shows how countries are very different but similar. It helps viewers learn how every part of the world can have a different aspect of how they see stuff. Lets keep in my that there are places that can use our help to have more developed children in our world.

Half the sky
The film “half the sky” introduces the idea that worldwide oppression of women could be the dominant civil rights issue of our time. the film shares stories of women in different country’s who are trying to change cultural ideas that are extremely oppressive to woman. Some of these issues include: education, maternal mortality, and gender based violence.
One of the most effective ways to fight poverty and poor communities is through the investment of education, particularly that of girls. Today more than 75 million primary school aged children are not in school. More than half of these children are girls and 75 percent of them live in sub Saharan Africa and South Asia. One of the main reasons why these girls are not going to school is because a lot of the time the parents cant afford it. Especial a one-parent family. The advantage of a family sending a girl to school is so that when the girl is old enough and can hand a good paying job with her diploma she can help and maintain the family.
Risk may not be the first thing that many associate with pregnancy. But for too many women, especially in the developing world, pregnancy and childbirth can have serious health risks. For example, the risk of dying in childbirth in sub-Saharan Africa is 1 in 22, while in the United States it’s 1 in 4,800. Some of the leading causes of maternal deaths are severe bleeding, infections, eclampsia, obstructed labor and unsafe abortions. And for every woman who dies in childbirth, at least 10 more suffer from serious injuries such as fistulas and tearing.
Violence and rape against woman is big in countries like south asia and Saharan Africa. One in five woman will be a victim of rape or attempted rape in her life time. Over 135 million girls and women have undergone genital mutilation and 2 million more girls are at risk each year. Another major study found that in most countries between 30 and 60 percent of women had experienced physical or sexual violence by a husband or a boyfriend.
The film “half the sky” if a big deal. Its an ugly impression to see. All the gender based violence, education issues and maternal mortality is horrible. These countries are in need of help. And by that I know that woman thse days will help a lot in the change of the world.
